Community ProfileGeneral Information

The diversity unit at Strathclyde Police advises the Force on issues of race, sexual orientation, age, religion/faith, disability and gender. The unit works together with groups to help tackle homophobic and race crimes and promote the Force as an organisation that can be trusted.

As the LGBT contact for Strathclyde Police my role is to prepare information and opinions for the Force, attend meetings with the agencies who work with groups in the community, advise on Force policy and attend many cultural and community events that take place throughout the Strathclyde Police force area.

FOLLOWING CONTACT BEING MADE ON THE GAYDAR SITE, A PERSON MEETS AT AN ARRANGED VENUE WITH SOMEONE THEY BELIEVE IS AN INNOCENT PARTY. ONCE AT THE MEETING PLACE THE PERSON IS ATTACKED. IN SOME CASES THEY ARE BEING PHYSICALLY ASSAULTED AND MONEY IS BEING TAKEN FROM THEM.
NO SUCH ACTIVITY HAS BEEN FORMALLY REPORTED TO THE POLICE IN THE STRATHCLYDE AREA.
USERS SHOULD EXERCISE CAUTION WHEN ARRANGING TO MEET AND IF POSSIBLE ENSURE A CONFIDANTE IS AWARE OF THE INTENDED MEETING PLACE.

Hate Crime
Hate crime is any criminal offence committed against a person or property that is motivated by an offender's hatred of someone because of their race, colour, ethnic origin, nationality or national origins, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation and disability.

Domestic Abuse
“Any form of physical, sexual or mental and emotional abuse which might amount to criminal conduct and which takes place within the context of a close relationship. The relationship will be between partners (married, co-habiting, civil partnership or otherwise) or ex-partners. The abuse can be committed in the home or elsewhere”

Domestic abuse exists in all sections of our communities. Abusers and victims can be rich or poor, male, female or transgender, be in a same sex relationships and of any race or religion.

Share your concerns or get advice from us at the drop in centres at Gay Men’s Health Association. Visit us on the last Wednesday of the month between 7pm and 9pm. First drop in is on Wed 30 ASept 2009.
